Glazed bricks for Villa Reehorst
Reconstruction of the original glaze for production of new bricks for the windowsills.
In collaboration with brick producer Steenfabriek Randwijk, 250 new bricks were made in the same color, structure and surface as the original sample.
This search begins with the knowledge of the actual and historic manufacturing processes. Having analyzed the original brick and glaze an estimation of the ingredients can be made. With basic recipes I make a first approach. It works with excluding in including outcomes while coming closer to right result.
The glaze is then put on the bricks and stoked to the acquired temperature.
After unloading the kiln, the bricks are controlled and assorted.
The result is a reconstructed glaze with the same optical qualities as the original. This new product must meet all actual standards regarding safety and environment.
